For Televising Asst. Minister’s View: Supreme Court Summon TV Manager

(CEMESP/IFEX) - The supreme court of Liberia has summoned the General  manager of the Renaissance communication Incorporated ,owners of Real TV and Truth FM Radio to show cause why he should not been held in contempt of the court.

The high court is demanding a video recording of the stations’ television service program “Lunch Time live”, in which Assistant Minister designate Isaac Jackson appeared as guest on April 5th 2010.

Mr. Jackson according to the Supreme Court made a statement against the Chief Clerk of the Court Martha  Bryant in the case between the leadership of the Liberty party  and some expelled members of the party.

According to the writ of summon, General Manager Singbeh  Johnson  appeared  before Associate Justice Kabina  Janeh at 4 PM on April 22, 2010 to give cause for his alleged failure to produce the video recording.

Manager Johnson in response to an earlier letter from the high court requesting him to produce the tape said the program was not recorded.

The  General manager was accompanied to the Supreme court chambers by Cllr.  Syrenious  Cephas and the President of the press union of Liberia Peter Quaqua.

Following the Manager Johnson’s insistence that he station don’t have a recording of the program, the Associate justice Janeh was left with no other alternative but to drop the issue against the Station and vowed to pursue the Assistant minister who allegedly made the statement against the supreme court.

“Lunch Time Live” is produced and moderated by Real TV and truth FM’ news editor Christopher Selle . The program discusses wide range of issues ranging from politics, social and religious issues among others.
